5 Tips to Motivate Yourself so that this Year's Sports Resolutions Don't Just Become a Discourse

Starting a habit of exercising regularly is often a New Year's resolution that is difficult to realize. Although initially excited, but over time there are obstacles and challenges that make you lose the motivation to continue.

So, how do you make sports resolutions successful and don't end up just being a discourse? Here are 5 tips to maintain exercise motivation quoted from the Mayo Clinic!

1. Set Reasonable Targets

The wrong habit that is often done when implementing New Year's resolutions is to set goals that are too high. Including when applying sports resolutions.

Instead of forcing yourself to do exercise resolutions 1-2 hours every day, you should adjust the resolution target to your ability so that you are not overwhelmed. For example, set a target of exercising 2-3 times a week with 30 minutes for those of you who are still beginners.

2. Do a variety of sports

It is undeniable, doing the same type of exercise over and over again can lead to boredom and decrease motivation. For that, you can run a resolution by doing various types of varied sports exercises.

For example, occasionally replace jogging with cycling, HIIT training or trying to take a Pilates class.

3. Workout with Friends

Another way to avoid getting bored while exercising is to do it with a close friend, partner or relative. In addition to being more enthusiastic, you can also support each other if one is lazy or loses the motivation to exercise.

4. Create a Private Note

The exercise log usually contains the schedule and duration of the exercise that will be done during the week. In addition, you can also write down what progress you have achieved during your regular exercise. For example, how long can you do planks or how much weight you lose regularly.

By looking at the achievements that have been passed, of course you will be more enthusiastic and motivated to continue exercising regularly.

5. Stop Comparing Yourself

Do you often compare your workout results to your body shape with others? If so, you should immediately stop this habit. The reason is, comparing yourself to others will only make you insecure and lose the motivation to exercise.

It is better to stay focused on the initial target you set, and also avoid doing excessive exercise to get instant results.
