Sex While Pregnant, Is It Dangerous?

If you are going through your first pregnancy, there will probably be lots of questions that pop up in your mind. One of them is whether you can have sex during pregnancy. You may also wonder how pregnancy affects sex. Well, basically, it's perfectly safe for you to have sex during pregnancy unless your doctor or midwife forbids it for medical reasons.

If you are going through your first pregnancy, there will probably be lots of questions that pop up in your mind.

Having sex will not hurt the baby in your womb. Penis or penetrative sex toys cannot penetrate into the uterus and the baby cannot feel anything as to what is going on. However, there may be some significant changes that you feel during pregnancy.

1. Decreased Sexual Arousal

During pregnancy, your sex drive will change as a result of significant hormonal changes. Even so, this is not something to worry about. However, discussing it with your partner will be very helpful to make him understand the conditions and situations that you are going through.

2. Sex Becomes So Fun

On the other hand, there is also the possibility that pregnant women find sex during pregnancy to be very enjoyable. Some pregnant women admit that they find a more special way to get love and pour it out.

3. Orgasm during pregnancy will not be a problem

If your pregnancy is normal and you don't have any complications, having sex and orgasming will not increase your risk of premature contractions or miscarriage. Orgasms can be even more pleasurable than pre-pregnancy orgasms.

In pregnant women who are undergoing pregnancy in the last trimester, orgasm or even sex itself can trigger mild contractions.

4. Contractions Due to Sex

In pregnant women who are undergoing pregnancy in the last trimester, orgasm or even sex itself can trigger mild contractions. If this happens, you will feel the uterine muscles harden. These are known as Braxton Hicks contractions and can be uncomfortable, but they are normal and nothing to worry about. You just need to try some relaxation techniques or just lie down until the contractions pass.

When should sex be avoided during pregnancy?

While sex is completely safe to have during pregnancy, it can be dangerous if your doctor or midwife tells you not to. Also, watch out for signs of serious conditions, such as heavy bleeding during pregnancy. Sex can also increase the risk of further bleeding if you have a low placenta or hematoma.

You will also be advised to avoid sex if:

Ruptured membranes - this can increase your risk of infection (ask your midwife or doctor if you're not sure if your membranes have ruptured)

There is a problem with the cervix - you may be at a higher risk of having an early labor or having a miscarriage

You have twins, or have previously given birth prematurely, and are in the final stages of pregnancy

What are the good and bad sex positions during pregnancy?

While sex is safe for most couples going through pregnancy, it may not actually be that easy. You may need to find a different position. It may take some time to explore the best position to find comfort for both husband and wife. So, make sure to communicate with your partner, OK!
