Reporting from the Sagepub journal page, McCrae and Costa are the two main researchers who sparked the existence of five personality dimensions in a person. The five dimensions are openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. This theory is called the Big Five Personality Dimensions, but over time it is more popularly referred to by its acronym, OCEAN.

Curious about the character of each of these OCEAN personalities? Check out the explanation below, come on!

If you have a high level of curiosity, are broad-minded, like to innovate, and are always confident and communicative when socializing, then you have a personality that is dominated by the openness dimension.

In accordance with the term, namely open alias open, people with this dominant trait are more open to all renewals. Owners of this trait really like challenges, like adventure, and tend to be more creative. Meanwhile, people with low openness tend to be defensive, traditional-minded and have difficulty thinking abstractly.

Have you ever seen people who always arrive much earlier at every opportunity? It could be that that person has a high conscientiousness nature.

People with dominant conscientiousness have a very organized life, both good time management and a structured work system. Not only diligent, this person is also very ambitious and productive.

They will be calmer when all their activities have been scheduled well in advance. That way, they have good impulse control and are always goal-oriented.

But, that doesn't mean people with low conscientiousness will always be careless and procrastinators, yes. They may prefer something spontaneous because it is not easy to predict.

The extraversion dimension is the basis of the commonly known measures of introvert and extrovert. As is known, people with high extraversion or extroverts have a high desire to socialize and express their emotions when they have an opinion.

People with high extraversion have a lot of energy to interact with. In fact, their energy will increase when plunged in a social situation.

On the other hand, people with low extraversion or introverts tend to conserve their energy when interacting. They have low motivation to jump in the crowd. Being alone is a way for introverts to re-energize so they can socialize again.

The agreeableness dimension has characteristics related to kindness, cooperation, affection and high trust. If you are the type who really likes to help others, likes to listen carefully to other people, and has a good ability to compromise, your personality is dominated by this dimension.

People with high agreeableness are easier to work with others because they are very cooperative. In addition, they are highly empathetic and are better able to find a middle ground in a dispute.

Meanwhile, people with low agreeableness scores tend to be more competitive when dealing with other people's affairs because they have low empathy. But, if your score is low, you don't need to be discouraged. Instead, you should be encouraged to learn to better improve yourself in order to have great empathy too.

Who among you is moody and whose hobby is overthinking? If you are one of them, maybe you have a high dimension of neuroticism.

The neuroticism dimension measures how emotional a person is in dealing with certain situations. Thus, this character refers to feelings such as irritability, disappointment, irritation, sadness, anxiety, confusion, or panic.

Someone who is dominated by neuroticism will easily experience extreme mood swings. They also tend to think about a problem too deeply and excessively. Meanwhile, people with low neuroticism can deal with problems more calmly and have a stable emotional level.

That's an explanation of the characteristics of the five OCEAN personality dimensions. Already know which is your dominant dimension?
