Show That You Are There For Them


It can be very difficult to know what to say to your friends when they have symptoms of depression. When your friends are not feeling well, let them know that you are there for them. You are ready to listen to their sorrows and worries.


However, keep in mind that your friend may want to talk about how they feel, not advice or judgment. Remember that what your friend is feeling is valid and not unfounded. Acknowledge that what happens to your friend can be difficult to deal with, which is why you should always be supportive.



Help Them Find Professional Support


If you feel that your friend's condition is already worrying enough — or even still in the early symptoms, try offering them to get professional help such as a psychologist for more appropriate treatment. At the worst possible time, your friend may not want to leave the house.


Depression can drain energy and increase the desire to isolate yourself. Encouraging them and supporting them to make the first appointment can be very helpful when you know they are struggling.
